A weekend away

Enjoying an evening on the porch

Sister Rhondi and I decided to take a weekend and go to Port Townsend. It had been a long time since we had been there for more than passing through to get the ferry. Our weekend started Friday night when I arrived at her house on the prairie with some Blue Moon and oranges.  It was so nice sitting out on her front porch, enjoying the sun and the sound of her fountain. We woke up early on Saturday morning, grabbed some coffee and headed out. Our first stop was at a nice little café in “Uptown” Port Townsend where we had a great breakfast.

Our table was next to the window and we had fun watching people coming and going to the local farmer’s market.  After we were done eating we walked over to the farmer’s market and spent time wandering through the booths and looking at all the wares.

It was a beautiful day and the bright colors, music and throngs of people gave it a festival type atmosphere.

We then went “downtown” and looked through all the great shops.

Mainly we just looked, but I did find a hat that I could not pass up!

Later in the day when most people were off eating their dinners, we took our cameras, parked the car and walked through one of the older neighborhoods. We saw some great fences.

We decided to get a hotel for the night instead of going home and had a leisurely dinner before going back to the room and going through all the pictures that we had taken. The next morning we went downtown to get more pictures.

It was early and the shops were all closed, so there were not many people around.  We were able to wander around and get lots of pictures without feeling conspicuous.

Old brick buildings... love them

It was amazing to be amongst all the old buildings with no sounds but the gulls and realize that it would have sounded the same way back in the 1800s.

We had a great time and went home with lots of pictures. It makes me want to plan another weekend away to some other great spot in this great state of ours. -Sandy

Flowers 365 (or 265 the way I’m going)

White lilac is full of blooms this spring

White lilac is full of blooms this spring

What a spring! I start to feel so behind on the outside stuff then I remember that it is only April. Most of my lilacs have bloomed and gone already but this white one is hanging on. Thanks sister Rhondi for planting it here!  I have a peony blooming. IN APRIL!

They usually come out in June.  Mind you, I am not complaining! Just enjoying all the color. -Sandy

Saturday with the grandkids 365

Picking flowers and looking for 4 leaf clovers

Picking flowers and looking for 4 leaf clovers

Saturday before last I spent the day with a couple of my grand kids.Fortunately it was a sunny day so we spent quite a bit of time outside, swinging, jumping on the trampoline and picking wildflowers. I took lots of pictures and have enjoyed spending some gray afternoons putzing around with photoshop. -Sandy

Our gentle giant 365

Spike

This is our ram. He is a shetland/jacob cross and looks a bit scary with his big horns. His looks can fool you though. He is very gentle and has never tried to butt us.   He hangs around with his pal,  a nigerian dwarf goat, who sometimes uses him as a stool to stand on to get branches that are too high. His fiber is long and soft and I plan to make a light, airy shawl with some of his wool. Someday. -Sandy

Out my window 365

view-from-desk

My desk sits under the west window of our dining room. I love looking out the window while I am doing bills or doing things (like this!) on the computer. I have several bird feeders in the side yard, so I get to watch all the different birds flitting about.  The blossoms on the camilila right outside my window are really big and bright this year, making this my favorite spot to sit and enjoy my morning cup of coffee. –Sandy

Do I dare 365

My sister has been teaching me a lot about photography and photoshop. I have been her model for many new ideas that she has and she is able to make me like myself in them. She is the most talented photographer I have seen. I love to look through her galleries of photographs over and over. There is such life in all of them. That said, my dear sister will probably not speak to me after this because I am doing the forbidden. I am posting a picture of her. A plain photograph would not do. It needed to be edgy. Kind of a Clint Eastwood of the female/photographer persuasion. So here it is. I kind of like it! –Sandy

I need to remember my camera 365

Looking at the baby

Looking at the baby

I love my camera, but for some reason (age???) I forget to grab it when I go places. Today I went to my granddaughter’s B. day party and there were so many opportunities to take some great shots, and all I had was my phone. I decided to use one of the pictures but had to doctor it up a lot in photoshop. I do love the watercolor look and it makes a out of focus picture ok. I could not post the picture big enough to show the neat details so I added a close up part so you could see the texture. -Sandy

Down on the Farm “old style” 365

carrotTimeVintage

Digital photography has come such a long way and the ability to edit with a stylus rather than dodging and burning in a darkroom means that we have a whole smorgasbord of effects to choose from. Ironically, I seem to gravitate to the old film styles. I wanted to give a timeless look to this one which simply depicts whats going on. Not an art piece for sure but a great way to document a day in the life here on the Prairie.

This one is simply Milo. I think his haircut suits the genre.
