Silo trek 365

Moore Rd. silo

Moore Rd. silo

I have lived in this area for over 15 years, but for some reason it was only in December that I started to notice all the silos around. I knew we had a couple, but was shocked when I started really looking as I drove down the road. They are all over!  It makes me wish I could see this wide valley of ours back in the day when working farms covered it. Now, so many of the silos stand alone, their companion barns gone. Many of them look like they will rot away also. I’ve made it my goal this year to go down every rural road in this area, find and photograph all the silos I can find. The oldest, a wooden one was one of the first pictures my sis helped me with. This one is just across the field from our place. I think it was owned by the family that owned the feed store in Elma.

Still Busy 365

Why is it that things take so much longer to do than planned? I have been working on projects for the big United Way Gala and what seemed simple turned into a long job.  I was feeling overwhelmed, but on Saturday the cavalry rode into town! My sister in law, brother and boys came over and worked all day with me. The projects are on track to be done on time now. Thanks family. You guys rock!

Catching raindrops in the sun 365

raindrops

raindrops

It was after another busy day that I grabbed my camera and ran outside to take a picture of the moon and it’s reflection in our field turned pond. As I started taking pictures, big raindrops began to fall.  I turned away from the moon to go inside and I noticed the big raindrops making circles in a big puddle. I took a few pictures and ran into the house. I was so disappointed in the pictures of the moon. The reflection was okay, but all of the trees and brush made for busy photographs. As I scrolled through to the end of the pictures I came across this one of the raindrops. SO COOL!!! I was pleasantly suprised! I love when the unexpected happens even in the midst of  busy days. -Sandy

the visitor

the visitor

Again my busy day left me little time to get pictures.  Our friend from up the hill was visiting, but both he and the mister were not into having their pictures taken. I convinced them to let me at least get a picture of their footwear. And yes, they thought I was very strange. As I was fiddling with the pictures in photoshop it dawned on me that the boots and slippers were the same ones that were part of my life when I was a kid.  The rubber boots took me back to visits at Clearwater and grandpa coming in from the barn. Many visitors back then also showed up in their boots, leaned back and had a cup of coffee and a bit of good talk just like our visitor today.

The slippers remind me of my pa and my uncles. After a hard day in the woods the work boots came off and the slippers went on and stayed on, even if we went over to someones house to visit. I remember all the boxes of these same Minnehaha slippers stacked at the local mercantile. I know it seems silly, but to realize that in these times where everything seems to be changing,  this little part of my life has stayed the same over the decades,is really comforting to me. -Sandy

Sunday Afternoon 365

Sisters

Yesterday  I got to spend part of the afternoon at sister Sandy’s. Of course I took my camera out to take advantage of the “new” territory to shoot. These two Ladies reminded me of Sandy and I. I wish I could say that I was the wistful blonde but alas It seems like my double would be the portly  ahem, sturdy one on the right. Dreet of course was there to entertain.

Learning 365

chickens undercover

chickens getting out of the rain

Sister Rhondi came over this afternoon and taught me more Photoshop.  We started with a  picture that I took in the pouring rain of my chickens hiding under a bench that was very so so.  She showed me how to bring out the good things in it and for a picture that I would have thrown away, I think it came out nice! She also pointed out things in my house to take pictures of. She has an amazing eye for photography!  I took another picture and played with some of the things she taught me. Thank you Sis! -Sandy

Sadie Girl

Sadie Girl

I spent some time this morning trying to capture something new with my camera.  I’m tired of rusty stuff and the landscape looked dreary because of the gray skies and rain. My sister seems to come up with so many amazing photographs all the time and I was bored with what I have here. What to do. I know! A portrait. No one but me around. I tried my shadow when the sun came out for a few minutes, but it would not pose right, so I talked Sadie the dog into posing for me.She was definitely was not into it. Ahhh! She needs a hat, thought I!

As you can see she did not think that was a good idea. Must get out more. -Sandy
